NEW BOOK

Matt Fioretti has been a high altitude climber and mountain guide in the Himalaya for over 24 years. He has spent 43 seasons in altitude. At age forty, when he was at the peak of his climbing career, he suffered with life threatening Aplastic Anemia for three years before ultimately receiving a bone marrow transplant. In his new book, Matt shares his unique perspective on survival and the power of the mind/body connection grew from his medical journey and the Himalaya.

Being aware of fear and managing it during any illness is essential to survival and to really living life, not just being alive. What is also essential to survival is to be aware of the gifts that come when you’re walking through hell. I just had to keep my heart open, trusting that whatever path I was on was the correct path.
My own path to survival caused my focus to be sharp, my inner strength a force. I felt excited to be moving on, in whatever form “moving on” would take.” I felt that if I did not take responsibility for myself, I would die. I made a plan and believed in it. I stayed cool and immediately accepted my new environment, one of the most important elements of survival.
